Dr. Tariq M. Ghafoor is a board-certified psychiatrist with more than three decades of clinical, administrative, and forensic experience in psychiatry and behavioral health. His professional work has focused on addiction psychiatry, forensic psychiatric evaluation, and the clinical management of complex behavioral health conditions.
Dr. Ghafoor is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology (ABPN) in General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry, and has also held board certification in Forensic Psychiatry. His clinical training includes fellowship training in Forensic Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
He completed residency training in General Psychiatry at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C., a historic federal psychiatric institution known for its work in public sector and forensic psychiatry. Following residency, he pursued additional fellowship training at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Wm. S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, focusing on both child and adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ghafoor has held a wide range of clinical and leadership positions in both public and private psychiatric systems. His roles have included positions such as Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, and attending psychiatrist across hospital and behavioral health settings in Arizona. His work has involved the clinical care of patients with complex psychiatric and substance use disorders as well as administrative leadership in behavioral health services.
Dr. Ghafoor has also been actively involved in the professional psychiatric community. He previously served as President of the Arizona Psychiatric Society, contributing to professional advocacy and leadership within the state’s psychiatric community.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ghafoor has longstanding experience in forensic psychiatric evaluation and consultation, providing expert analysis in matters where psychiatry intersects with legal systems.
